By covering skills including self-compassion, compassion for others, common humanity, appreciating interdependence, and engaging with discernment, CIT aims toward increasing our well-being and ability to make compassionate decisions at 3 important levels. This program was created with the aspiration of creating resiliency-informed changemakers to cultivate and uphold agency for the change they wish to see in the world.
This training brings the abstract nature of the concepts of Empathy & Resilience, and grounds them in a set of concrete foundations that aspire to eventually help individuals avoid actions that compromise their well-being and that of others, and gravitate towards increased individual and collective flourishing.
Empathy & Resilience Methods explores a set of 10 skills which are categorized into 3 different series:
The first series focuses on the inner cultivation of an individual through exploring the ability to self-regulate physical and emotional states of being by practicing skills of resilience. This series builds on strengths, emotional intelligence, and identifies cognitive distortions that may interfere with our everyday lives and ability to learn. These skills teach participants about their awareness of personal triggers, and an opportunity to practice their resilience through cultivating skills to manage our responses in stressful situations.
The second series focuses on integrating skills developed in series I, in relation to ‘others’ through the process of strengthening pro-social attributes such as impartiality, gratitude, empathy, and compassion.
This series cultivates an understanding of biases, and cultural diversity, as well as skills for restorative dialogue practices and navigating conflicts.
The third series explores the interdependent nature of the world we live in through the value of a systems perspective. The focus is on strengthening skills to act with discernment and compassion within systems. This series integrates resiliency informed approaches to collective action by harnessing and building emotionally intelligent leadership.
Within this final series, participants create and map out a personal well-being plan, and community action plan by put
