Compassionate Integrity Training

‘Compassionate Integrity Training’ (CIT) is a certified multi-part training program developed by the Center for Compassion, Integrity, and Secular Ethics (CCISE) at Life University that cultivates basic human values as skills for the purpose of increasing individual, social and environmental flourishing.

CIT skills

By covering skills including self-compassion, compassion for others, common humanity, appreciating interdependence, and engaging with discernment, CIT aims toward increasing our well-being and ability to make compassionate decisions at 3 important levels.

Self

Relating to
others

Engaging with
systems

How does it work ?

This training brings the abstract nature of the concepts of compassion and integrity, and grounds them in a set of concrete foundations that aspire to eventually help individuals avoid actions that compromise their well-being and that of others, and gravitate towards increased individual and collective flourishing.

CIT explores a set of 10 skills which are categorized into 3 different series:

Self

The first series explores knowledge and skills related to the inner workings of an individual. It begins with exploring the ability to self-regulate our physical and emotional states of being, then moves on to self-compassion and the identification and nurturing of one’s core values.

Relating to others

The second series focuses on improving our relationship with others through the process of strengthening pro-social attributes such as forgiveness, gratitude, impartiality, empathy, and compassion.

Engaging with systems

The third and last series involves recognizing the interdependent nature of the world we live in, including the interdependence of the systems we are involved in. The focus here is on the value of a ‘systems perspective’, and on developing and strengthening skills and discernment to act effectively for constructive change within systems.
